Electric Pressure Cooker Fresh Green Beans Notes:

  • If you want this to be a dump and go recipe, use co*cktail onions and bacon bits. However, if you prefer, you can fry up regular bacon and crumble and slice up a yellow onion instead.
  • If you are using fresh beans from the garden you will want to wash and trim your beans beforehand. If you cannot get your hands on some fresh beans from the garden, you can oftentimes find them at the grocery store in the produce aisle.
  • I broke the ends off of my beans and then broke them again. You can leave them longer if you like. I just enjoy breaking the beans like I did when I was a kid. Totally up to you.
  • If you want to step this recipe up a notch, add in a tablespoon of bacon grease. We always save our bacon grease, so I have a coffee mug in my fridge with bacon grease. Is this a southern Indiana thing or do you do this too?

      Hi Debbie!

With 2 lbs of green beans, it takes quite a bit of liquid to cover all of them. If you wanted, you can substitute part of the broth with water, but there won’t be as much flavor cooked into your beans if part of the liquid is water. Whichever way you decide to make these, I hope you enjoy them.

      Hi John!

I believe they are called Italian or Flat Beans. These were beans I picked up from a local Amish produce stand, so they didn’t have a label on them. They looked like the ones I used to make with Momma and Gramma, so I figured they were good to go. lol If you are looking for a name for planting your own, I would ask the people at the place you buy your seeds which seed would produce this type of bean. Enjoy!

It’s a southern thing I guess. My grandma and mom both did this so we kids all do too. I try my chicken in bacon grease and in a vast iron skillet. It’s the best I know how.

Aunt Lou, I keep my bacon grease too and I use it when cooking green beans. I guess I was a strange kid. I liked helping my mom string and snap beans. My grandmother cooked the best though, even my mom agreed with that.

Maybe my attention span wasn’t long enough. I would find it fun for about 10 minutes, but then I was ready to go play. lol It’s a toss up for me. Momma and Gramma have both made some amazing green beans over the years!
